The Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin (MIW) is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to help math educators develop stronger content knowledge and more effective teaching strategies. The organization serves over 8,500 Wisconsin educators, including administrators, teachers, and coaches. They provide instructional support through a variety of in-person and online workshops as well as customized professional development.
Branding & Messaging
The organization partnered with STIR in 2019 to develop a new brand position and updated messaging to better reflect the organization’s evolution. The goal was to increase positive perceptions of MIW among educators for their training, expert team coaches, and events.
STIR led a branding workshop with the MIW team to help identify key target personas along with ideal messaging for each. A positioning statement — “the math experts Wisconsin educators trust to improve and inspire themselves and their students” — was supported by a messaging platform for each audience and incorporated into a new website, plus photography and videos.
Working collaboratively with MIW, STIR completely redesigned the organization’s website by reorganizing the site architecture to more effectively target key audiences. This task also included rewriting headlines and copy to reflect the new positioning.
Video Production & Custom Photography
STIR worked with MIW to organize an on-site photoshoot and video shoot at several schools. The new imagery and video captured the enthusiasm and commitment of the educators involved with MIW’s training and reflected the children’s genuine excitement as they explored new math concepts.
